Plan Your Q4 Content Before November Plans You

Nov 01, 2026

This was taken from a live class transcript from the Hairdresser Business Club.

Stop asking what to post today. Ask which topics your business needs you to cover.

It is the 18th of November. You open your booking software, find six empty spots before Thanksgiving, and post your availability with all the calm of a hostage video. Nobody books. The trouble started back in October, when every post was whatever came to mind that morning.

Let your calendar write your content calendar.

Salon owners are great at showing up online. Where most of us slip is posting without a target. So run every post through one simple test: what does my book need right now, and which of the four jobs will this post handle? Here is how to answer both for the last quarter of the year.

Start with the booking software

Before you plan a single reel, open your book and look at the next three months. Find the gaps and the month that always goes quiet. If the same month is slow every year, the answer might be time off rather than more content.

Then decide what the quarter is meant to achieve. It could be new clients, a hire, a class or a brand you are building. Once you name it, every post points in that direction, and you stop making it up every Monday morning.

Give every post one of four jobs

  • Attract. Hooks, opinions and relatable content that bring new people onto your page.
  • Build trust. The human parts: your sense of humor, your failures and the opinions you hold.
  • Create desire. Transformations, client stories and the work you are excited to make.
  • Convert. Clear direction on your open spots, who you take, what to book and the deadline.

Most owners are strong at two of these. They get the follow and they earn the trust, and then nobody books, because nobody was asked. People wait for an invitation, so give them one. Try the quiz below and see whether you can spot each job.

Skip the pumpkin graphics

A snowflake or a pumpkin never made anybody want your chair, and neither does a post that says “book your holiday hair.” Instead, join the conversation already running in your client’s head: family stress, school breaks, going darker for fall, Thanksgiving travel, party photos and the exhaustion that arrives at the end of the year.

  • If Thanksgiving is the first time your family sees you since July, we need to talk about your roots.
  • Your December calendar is already chaotic. Your appointment can be the calm part.
  • A haircut costs four pumpkin spice lattes.

Plant before you harvest.

Work four to eight weeks ahead

Social effort usually pays off within a month. If you want November appointments, start talking about them now. If you want December, start in November. Here is a simple October you can copy:

  • Week 1, inspiration: the color you are dying to do this fall.
  • Week 2, education: thinking about going darker? Here is what to know first.
  • Week 3, proof: richer without feeling dark, and how you got there.
  • Week 4, invitation: a couple of spots left before Thanksgiving.

Build the desire before you ask for the booking. Your booking post should never be the first time people hear what you offer.

Use Q4 to rebook your regulars

Look at the clients who come every 6, 8, 10 or 12 weeks and do the math while they are sitting in your chair. If their next visit lands in Thanksgiving or Christmas week, tell them now. If you wait until December, you will discover that nobody booked.

Keep your feed for discovery and your stories for nurture, urgency, cancellations and open spots. A feed post lives for months, so the urgent material belongs in stories. Remember that January gets built in these three months too.

The lazy weekly formula

  • Monday, get seen: identity, opinions and relatable posts.
  • Wednesday, build trust: education, expertise and your story.
  • Friday, create desire: transformations and client stories.
  • Every day in stories: availability and an invitation.

Salon owners, keep weaving your team and your why into the identity posts. Q4 is a strong season for attracting clients, and the same posts can keep your hiring pipeline full.

Your Q4 cheat sheet

  1. Open the booking software and find the gaps in the next three months.
  2. Name the goal for the quarter and point every post toward it.
  3. Give each post one job: attract, build trust, create desire or convert.
  4. Talk about what your clients are already thinking, and skip the holiday decor.
  5. Start promoting four to eight weeks before the dates you want filled.
  6. Rebook your regulars’ holiday visits while they are in your chair.
  7. Use stories for urgency and keep the feed for discovery.

Homework: open your booking software tonight, circle the slowest week before the end of the year, and write the four posts that will fill it.
