In her own words:

“I thought I was going to lose everything, but Destroy The Hairdresser gave me the tools and support to rebuild my business from the ground up.

I went from contemplating bankruptcy to expanding into a 3,000-square-foot salon and opening my own academy.

[…] My coach at DTH was a lifeline. Through some of the toughest times in my career, they provided guidance, reassurance, and a reality check when I needed it most. I don’t know where I’d be without them.”

Kris Templeton is a seasoned hairstylist with over 36 years of experience and the owner of Hype Hair Studio and Hype Hair Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Kris, initially hesitant to adopt Destroy The Hairdresser's methods like time-based pricing, reconsidered her traditional salon management approach due to mounting operational and financial challenges.

The Challenge:

Kris’s salon was struggling with financial instability. She had been charging only $35 for haircuts for many years, which was no longer sustainable. The salon also faced high turnover, with three major team members leaving in quick succession, leaving Kris in a difficult position. Additionally, Kris was dealing with serious personal stress, including family medical emergencies.

Taking the Leap:

Kris decided to fully commit to DTH coaching, which marked the beginning of a significant transformation in her salon. She adopted the hourly pricing model, gradually increasing her rate. This change helped improve her financial stability. Kris also embraced the DTH concept of business freedom, allowing her team members to manage their schedules independently. This fostered a more supportive and autonomous environment within the salon.

Making the Shift:

Facing recruitment and retention issues, Kris revamped her stylist recruitment and training strategies to align with her salon's values. She honed her emotional intelligence for stress management and leadership. Inspired by Destroy The Hairdresser's focus on innovation and education, she established Hype Hair Academy, a hybrid salon-cosmetology school offering a blend of basic cosmetology training and advanced salon management.

 The Role of Coaching:

The changes Kris implemented led to a significant increase in revenue and profitability. She was able to increase her hourly rate and overall revenue, moving from $35 per haircut to a model that supports $300 per hour. Kris also successfully expanded her business to include Hype Hair Academy, providing a new revenue stream and fulfilling her passion for education. This hybrid model allows her to train new stylists directly within her salon's framework, creating a continuous talent pipeline.

Results:

The shift towards flexibility and personal accountability has resulted in a more engaged and motivated team, reducing turnover and fostering a positive salon culture. On a personal level, Kris’s journey with DTH not only saved her business but also strengthened her marriage and personal well-being, giving her the tools and support needed to navigate stress and make strategic decisions.
